Does Ten Reps Mean Ten on Each Side?

One line, two possible workouts

A workout says three sets of ten lunges. You do ten steps and stop. Your partner does twenty. Neither of you can solve the problem by staring harder at the number. The missing detail is whether the coach meant ten total reps or ten per side. Ask before adding weight or racing the clock.

Make the count visible

Write the exercise as ten per side, or twenty alternating reps total. For a move done one side at a time, note both sides separately. If you do eight on the left and ten on the right, record that instead of turning it into a tidy ten. An honest log is more useful than a neat one.

Use the same rule next time

Choose a consistent way to count and keep it with the exercise name. A change from total reps to per-side reps can double the count without looking different on paper. Check the rest period too: does it begin after each side or after both? Your coach can clarify the intended session.

A note worth keeping

Try this log entry: split squat, eight each side, one round finished after both legs. That sentence answers three questions before the next workout starts. Counting is not glamorous, but it beats accidentally inventing a second workout.
