Same weight, different rep
Ten reps does not tell you how long each rep took. Tempo describes the pace of the movement: lowering, pausing, lifting, and pausing again. Two sets with the same weight and count can have different timing. Research reviews discuss tempo as a training variable, not a universal shortcut to better results.
Read the instructions before the set
If your program includes a tempo code, ask your coach which movement each number describes. Do not guess the order. Follow the pace that belongs to your plan rather than changing it halfway through because a slower rep feels more impressive.
Compare like with like
When reviewing a session, keep the movement pace in mind alongside the weight and reps. A changed tempo can make the comparison less direct. This is a way to understand training instructions, not a reason to add more difficulty to every exercise.
